I successfully completed the installation guide steps up until this section the Linux Core Installation (I have no prior install of this, starting from scratch):

Installing MySQL Server

When configuring MySQL make sure you remember the password you set for the default root account and that you enabled both MyISAM and InnoDB engines.

You can leave all the other settings as default. You might want to enable remote access to your MySQL server if your are also testing a website for your Trinity server or if you have friends testing with you which need access from remote. Remember that this will decrease the security level of your MySQL server!

 

In the requirements section I did this: apt-get install mysql-server p7zip

Is this what this section is talking about?

This section doesn't have example command line prompts, so I'm not sure what I'm doing. How can MySQL be configured in the way that's required for the following step in Databases Insallation:

Start worldserver and press enter when it asks if you want to create databases.

  • If you get errors you may want to check your mysql login credentials in worldserver.conf and read the error message as it may tell you what to do.

My error was (edit: after using ./worldserver in the /server/bin file): Could not connect to MySQL database at 127.0.0.1: Access denied for user 'trinity'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

The only thing I changed in worldserver.conf was that I changed the password from "trinity" to the root password I created during apt-get install of mysql-server in the 3 spots near the beginning.

Edit: By the three spots I mean LoginDatabaseInfo, WorldDatabaseInfo, and CharacterDatabaseInfo

 

Also, is there a guide that you would recommend for beginners to MySQL and servers in general? I don't have experience with this, and my purpose for setting up this up is so I can get a LAN server up and running.

Thanks, and I'm not blaming the wiki guide. It's a great guide, since even I can understand most of it (well the first sections at least), and I'm just someone jumping in to this with no prior knowledge of how servers work.

You should be creating a user in mysql for running the server, not using the root account.

I'm assuming your mysql server is on the same machine as the emu.

1) log in to mysql:

mysql -uroot -p

enter your password when prompted

 

2) I always create the databases first, but i believe that the worldserver and authserver will create them if they don't exist.  To do this, from the mysql prompt run:

create database world;

create database auth;

create database characters;

 

3) from the mysql prompt run the following to create the user and authorize them to have access to the databases.

create user 'trinity'@'localhost' identified by 'trinity';

grant all on auth.* to 'trinity'@'localhost' identified by 'trinity';

grant all on characters.* to 'trinity'@'localhost' identified by 'trinity';

grant all on world.* to 'trinity'@'localhost' identified by trinity;

quit

 

4) now, edit your worldserver.conf and authserver.conf so that the connection strings are like the following: (should be in the /etc folder)

LoginDatabaseInfo is in both authserver.conf and worldserver.conf.  WorldDatabaseInfo and CharacterDatabaseInfo are in worldserver.conf only

LoginDatabaseInfo = "127.0.0.1;3306;trinity;trinity;auth"

WorldDatabaseInfo = "127.0.0.1;3306;trinity;trinity;world"

CharacterDatabaseInfo = "127.0.0.1;3306;trinity;trinity;characters"

 

then try running worldserver again.

Thank you! After following what you said to do and running worldserver again, I got the expected output for the next step, which is that it looked for maps and vmaps, couldn't find them, and then exited. It also said I was missing MonsterSight in my worldserver.conf file, so I should probably add what it says to add in there.

I should have specified earlier, is this the official wiki? https://trinitycore.atlassian.net/wiki/display/tc/Installation+Guide Whether or not it is, is there a wiki that lists out the MySQL steps for future reference?

I moved on from this part of the wiki: https://trinitycore.atlassian.net/wiki/display/tc/Linux+Core+Installation and then started doing the steps on this part of the wiki: https://trinitycore.atlassian.net/wiki/display/tc/Databases+Installation just as an experiment to see if it would work. So the steps I posted were out of order because of that.

If you haven't already, you'll need to run the extractors in the client folder on a properly updated client to generate the dbc, maps, etc.

And yes, just add each of those lines to your worldserver.conf file.

My bad, I did see that line in the wiki, I just didn't know what to do with it. My OP really should have been "How do I import a branch?"

One last set of questions. I have gotten a single player server up and running (so cool!), but now I would like to enable people on the LAN to connect as well. What I did was I changed the realmlist.wtf in the client, and the address AND local address fields (should I just change address?) in the realmlist table within the auth database. I changed each of those spots from 127.0.0.1 to 192.168.0.41 (my lan ip). Is this the right plan? Should I also change the MySQLIP in the authserver.conf and worldserver.conf files?

When I try to connect to the server from a different computer running the client, with the lan ip (192 etc.) in the realmlist.wtf, on the same wifi network, it doesn't connect. There is also no output while authserver is running and when I try to log in on the other computer.

Edit: Probably don't need to show results of ifconfig, it just ends up showing my local ip address, and possibly too much info.

Solved my own problem using information from the top four posts on this page of this thread:

For Debian users I recommend MySQL Workbench. It worked pretty well for me. I just had trouble figuring out which thing to click on in the right click context menu.

After Right-Clicking realmlist in the Schemas section on the side, I had at first chosen "Alter Table", and that was wrong because there I could only change the default value of address. Instead you choose "Select Rows", after which you can edit the value underneath address, and change it to your local network IP. Then it should work, if your problem was that authserver was still creating a server at 127.0.0.1, instead of at your local network IP.

Don't do this (you can just leave anything you find here alone, instead of changing it like it shows here):

Simple. Worldserver.exe instant closes. And i dont know why. I have uploaded the Serverlog. Maybe someone here can help me.

+Zwox: did it occur to you that you may have written your folder name wrong if you added it in Worldserver.conf ?

Notice the space in the folder name in your Server.log :

DBUpdater: Given source directory C:/Users/Zwox/Desktop/WoW Server/Trinity does not exist

I have tested the same folder names that are referenced in your log, so if you
have put the source in C:\Users\Zwox\Desktop\WoW Server\Trinity\ (notice the space in "Wow Server")
and the build files in C:\Users\Zwox\Desktop\WoWServer\Build\ (no space in the path or folder names)
it should work if that is what you entered in CMake. But I have my doubts about which folder names you actually used.

My best guess would be that you have put the source in C:\Users\Zwox\Desktop\WoWServer\Trinity\
and the build files in C:\Users\Zwox\Desktop\WoWServer\Build\ (both Build & Trinity inside the same C:\Users\Zwox\Desktop\WowServer\ folder)
and that you have entered the path with a space in Worldserver.conf instead of letting Worldserver.exe read from the CMake settings.

Try again with a default Worldserver.conf , you should not need to change anything there. Emtpy your Build folder and run CMake again with default settings.

Hi all, 

   been trying to set up my own personal server here and ran into a road block. Please see attachment. I believe that i have all the data necessary in the bin/ directory where the world server.exe exists. I am running this from Mac OS X El Capitan (using wine devl to run the exe files). I have all the .sql files available but somehow it cannot find it. 

Also, I originally downloaded a repack and supposedly had all the MPQ files available but I am just not familiar with how these extractors work. that link is here: http://www.ac-web.org/forums/showthread.php?211443-Official-AC-Web-Ultimate-Repack-(3-3-5a) It seems that this is legit and up to date with trinity core but i know you say in the installation guides to use only your extractors for support so trying to do it according to the installation guide below - but confused as to what to expect here.

According to https://trinitycore.atlassian.net/wiki/display/tc/Server+Setup#ServerSetup-3.3.5aonly: i put the tools where my binary is (torrent download) but when running the first extractor i get something that says "no locales found" and the other ones don't seem to work. (please see screenshot about common.mpq)

Can anyone help? The OS X Server set up piece seems to be pretty much incomplete.

You don't need Wine, you can (and should) compile the server and tools for OS X. Start at https://trinitycore.atlassian.net/wiki/display/tc/Installation+Guide.

I guess i should have known that you need to run these from the command line (although this isn't spelled out in the installation guide under Mac OS X) but i figured since i had already installed wine i could run the exes by double clicking.

Hello,

Got the server compiled. Triple checked my work and am hitting this error:

I did move WorldServer to it's own folder and the same issue occurred. I know I am not crazy, but let me know if I'm wrong about anything and I'll gladly correct it.

So I sourced it manually and the auto-updater worked great. not really sure the cause but sourcing it was much quicker and easier.

So both files are here. Both have correct permissions, 644 for SQL file so it's readable. I tried changing to 777 thinking it was a odd permissions issue, but no luck either.

Hi.

Fresh core. The same thing happens whether I populate the databases as instructed by Aokromes or let the server do everything.

 

Does bnetserver exist for 3.3.5? The server executable might've been a leftover from a master-compile.

      Hello all, first time posting here and it's really got me scratching my head.
      I've compiled everything on my own computer, and then transferred everything to a host computer so the server can stay live. The server was running fine for a month or so and then suddenly it just crashes when it hits "Loading C++ scripts", exiting saying "caught signal 22"
      I tried setting up the host computer from scratch and transferred everything over fresh and it's still happening for some reason. (Note, I can run the server perfectly on my personal pc where I compiled it.)
      Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

      A lot of people have asked how to debug so I made this short guide on how to set up debugging.
      This guide only tells you how to actually set up debugging in TrinityCore on Windows and Linux.
      This will not explain the basics of debugging. You can google those or play around with the debugger to learn.

      This guide contains multiple guides. Each list of bullet points is it's own guide.
      Make sure you can run the server normally before trying to debug.

      Windows:
      On Windows before anything you should check these
      - Before debugging or making crashlogs etc. with Visual Studio you must compile the core in "Debug" instead of "Release". You can select this in "Build>Configuration Manager" or at the top of Visual Studio window http://i.imgur.com/5oHd59j.png
      - You also need to move the new pdb files generate by compiling in debug mode on Visual Studio from the compile output folder (bin) to your server folder - these files contain information needed for debugging.
      - It is assumed that Solution Explorer is open. Open it by selecting "View>Solution Explorer" in Visual Studio http://i.imgur.com/hkW6Gk0.png

      - You can place breakpoints in Visual Studio editor by right clicking a line of code and selecting "Breakpoint>Insert Breakpoint" http://i.imgur.com/L2TxBVG.png
      - At the top of the window you should see controls for stepping and continuing when you have started to debug.

      Fastest way to debug on windows. This is the easiest way to start up debugging a script.
      - Start the authserver and worldserver normally
      - Open TrinityCore.sln in Visual Studio. This is what you usually open when you want to compile the core
      - In Visual Studio at the top select "Debug>Attach to process...>worldserver.exe" and click "Attach" http://i.imgur.com/jDEI2Hq.png
      - You are now debugging
       
      The second slower way of debugging on windows. This is useful for debugging something that occurs in the startup of the server.
      - Open TrinityCore.sln in Visual Studio. This is what you usually open when you want to compile the core
      - In solution explorer right click on worldserver and select "Set as StartUp Project" http://i.imgur.com/wvMzeRA.png
      - In solution explorer right click on worldserver and select "Properties" http://i.imgur.com/rTNEF9O.png
      -- In Properties you should go to "Configuration Properties>Debugging" and edit "Working Directory" to point to the server folder. For me this is the default compile folder so I use "$(OutDir)" http://i.imgur.com/aRI29fB.png
      - Start the authserver normally
      - Start the worldserver by selecting "Debug>Start Debugging". The server will start with debugging attached from the beginning http://i.imgur.com/cg1KJNw.png
      - You are now debugging
      Crashlogs on windows. Once you have a way to reproduce a crash you can get a crashlog that can help you resolve it.
      - After compiling the core in "Debug" instead of "Release" start up the worldserver and authserver
      - Reproduce the crash you have
      - In the server folder there is now a folder called Crashes that contains txt and dmp files. http://i.imgur.com/9eQIdql.png

      -- At the top of a txt file there is some information about your system and below it there is the Call Stack and below that there are Variables of each part of the call stack
      -- The Call Stack will tell you at the top what was the last function call before crashing and what function calls led to that function call.
      -- Next to the function names there is the file that the function is defined in and the line number the code was executing in that function.
      -- In the Variables section you can inspect variables that were present at each function call.
      -- Based on this information you are often able to see what crashed or get a better view of what you need to inspect more in your code.
      - The dmp file can be opened in Visual Studio
      -- Open TrinityCore.sln in Visual Studio. This is what you usually open when you want to compile the core
      -- Drag and drop the dmp file to Visual Studio

      -- You are now in a state like you would have hit a break point in the code or a crash while debugging. You can inspect the call stack and the variables.
      Edit and continue on windows. When debugging this allows you to change the code and without restarting the server apply those changes so they actually work ingame.
      - Open TrinityCore.sln in Visual Studio. This is what you usually open when you want to compile the core
      - In solution explorer right click on worldserver and select "Properties" http://i.imgur.com/rTNEF9O.png
      -- In Properties select "Configuration Properties>Linker>General" and set "Enable Incremental Linking" to "Yes". http://i.imgur.com/caQqwN5.png

      - At the top of the window select "Tools>Options". In the Options select "Debugging>General" and in there select "Enable Edit and Continue", "Enable Native Edit and Continue" and "Require source files to exactly match the original version".
      - Compile the server for the changes to take effect.
      - Set up "The second slower way of debugging" (I did not test edit and continue on other configurations)
      - Start the authserver normally
      - Start the worldserver by selecting "Debug>Start Debugging".
      - Try edit a cpp file a little and save it.
      - At top of Visual Studio window select "Debug>Apply Code Changes" and wait until the changes are applied. Warning: it can take considerable amount of time for the changes to be applied. http://i.imgur.com/77pb58E.png

      Linux:
      First we need to compile the server in debug mode.
      - Compile the server with the cmake flag -DCMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Debug

      Debugging on linux. You can debug on linux by using GDB.

      - Start the worldserver by using "gdb -x crashreport.gdb ./worldserver"
      - Reproduce your crash
      - There should be a backtrace.log in your server folder that contains information about the crash like the callstack and variables in each function call in the call stack

      Running valgrind on linux. This helps you find memory errors like invalid reads and writes and memory leaks.

      Hey there!

      I've followed a few threads here about map extraction, and am still having issues. Originally, I was having the issue described here.
      After following the advice given in that thread (creating characters of both BC races and running around for a bit), I am no longer getting that error, however now I get the following error while trying to extract maps:

      `Error loading World\Maps\Expansion01\Expansion01_42_6.adt`

      This repeats for every line in Expansion01, and then the extractor crashes.

      I'm not sure where else to go from here.

      Edit: I've created an 85 on an i85 server and flown all around Outland now, same issue.

      I recently found the Trinity Cataclsym Preservation Project and thought I will try it out.
      I am already running 3.3.5a and Master - both server run great
      Pulled 4.3.4 down using Git and built it same way as others:
      boost_1_73_0 cmake 3.17.2 Mysql 5.7.30 VS Community 2019 Built fine - no issue. Used 'Extractor.bat' to run all the map extractors - worked great!
      Noticed there was extra file 'connection_patcher.exe`, ran that - worked great! Now have "wow_patched" and use this to launch client
      MySQL runs in standalone mode, -initialize, added base sql files, imported, auth and character sql files
      Configured both the .conf files and passwords, IPs etc are all in place.
      Note: When loading the exe and built conf file, bnetserver complain about these items missing, so I add them:
      Updates.AutoSetup = 1 Updates.EnableDatabases = 0 LoginDatabase.SynchThreads = 1 Load up Mysql - loads fine
      Load up bnetserver and appears to load ok - last few lines look like this:
      Connected to MySQL database at 127.0.0.1
      DatabasePool 'auth' opened successfully. 2 total connections running.
      Started auth database connection pool.
      Listening on connections from worldservers on port 1118...
      Load up worldserver and it adds the FULL world and hotfixes, then applied all updates (confirmed archived in SQL) - last few lines look like this:
      Calculate next monthly quest reset time...
      Calculate random battleground reset time...
      Calculate guild limitation(s) reset time...
      Calculate next currency reset time...
      World initialized in 0 minutes 13 seconds
      TrinityCore rev. d0c7bbab40bc 2020-05-06 00:01:21 +0200 (master branch) (Win64, RelWithDebInfo, Static) (worldserver-daemon) ready...
       
      There are no db errors in logs.
      Config.wtf contain portal, realmlist as remote server and patchlist as localhost.
      When I try to connecting using "[email protected]" and password I get immediately disconnected.
      What I did noticed different is that the bnetserver doesnt add "Added realm "Battle for Azeroth" at 192.168.10.213:8085." (From my Master log) 
      3.3.5a also have this line as last line in authserver - but 4.3.4 is not giving me this one.
      Realmlist table is accurate with right information.
      Anyone know why bnetserver is not starting me realm?
