  1. Theoretically there is no reason why it shouldn't work if you host the mysql server on a different machine.

  2. According to

    DBUpdater: Given update include directory "/Users/ikirserver/Applications/trinityserver/sql/updates/world" isn't existing, skipped!

    the update doesn't recognize your update directories.

    Maybe you need to set this option: https://github.com/TrinityCore/TrinityCore/blob/6.x/src/server/worldserver/worldserver.conf.dist#L1159
