  1. Echoing what CDawg said... Also, if you don't run a firewall that allows you to block internet access per application then you might want to modify the hosts file so if the Launcher accidentally gets past you it can't do any damage.
  2. You know full well I'm not trolling. Up until this updated DB things were broken. You know that and I know that. I was just advising based on my past experiences with being told "you're doing it wrong" when I knew I wasn't. PS: If you don't like what I have to say, you could always delete my posts like has been done in the past.
  3. The problem is the same as everyone else. You followed the guide and missed some SQL updates because they weren't included in the guide.
  4. Thanks Nay. Incidentally, you'll note that I wrote "The guide does not work as written". If you follow the guide, it does not tell you to clone any specific revision, it merely says to clone the repo: So technically the guide doesn't work. You could not follow it at face-value and end up with a working core.
  5. I don't know why you keep telling people to follow the guide. I've said several times, the guide DOES NOT work. If you follow it as written the core will not start. If you import the sql files in "updates" then it will start but with tons of errors. The problem you run into, after getting around the "table does not exist" issue with importing the updates is that your playercreate_* tables are empty so you can't speak, use GM commands and you start with the wrong gear / spells. If you want more help developing and testing the 4.3.4 branch then someone really needs to fix the guide and the SQL files.
  6. I think the first issue you should resolve is the vsinit.dll problem. This has nothing to do with Trinity and if it is throwing errors when you try to start Trinity then your antivirus is probably broken and is causing problems. Because it has "vs" in the name, you might think vsinit.dll is part of Visual Studio but as I mentioned earlier, vsinit.dll is part of Zone Alarm. I've been compiling with Visual Studio 2008 since forever and just to be sure, I ran a full system search for vsinit.dll and nothing was found (incidentally I have Visual Studio 6 and 2010 installed as well).
  7. That would be redundant since he also said to install the "updates" after installing the ones from 3.3.5a. Also, the ones in the "updates" folder with the "434" tag are very old compared to the full DB that's available. If you follow all the guides, even the two broken guides for Cata., the normal procedure is to import anything with a date newer than your core. Unfortunately the whole Cata situation is a mess. People that have it working don't feel the need to put up a proper guide so other people can get it up and running for fear that people will switch to it as a release build. I tried to get one running so I can see what bugs the pets have since I did a lot of work on them in 3.3.5a but after being met with frustration I gave up.
  8. FYI: vsinit.dll isn't related to Trinity. According to Process Library it's part of Zone Alarm. Also someone posted a similar problem on the ac-web forums. Since you said "based on Trinity", I hope you're not using their repack and trying to follow Trinity's instructions.
  9. Maybe the ones in the "srcsqlold4.3.4" folder although as I mentioned before, the "experts" say you're not supposed to be importing anything from there so it's up to you if you want to try it.
  10. Indeed, I agree. Unfortunately the typical knee-jerk answer to these types of questions is "you did it wrong".
  11. Interesting. Both guides on the wiki (windows and linux) say not to install anything from the Updates folder and I was even accused of "doing it wrong" in a bug report when I mentioned that my character can't use any chat commands. I found that I needed to copy the PlayerCreatInfo_* tables from my 3.3.5a database to 4.3.4 in order to be able to use gm commands, despite what the "experts" say.
  12. Thanks for that, I might give it a try this weekend.
  13. Yes, from what I've read over on the official site it tends to stream data for new zones once you enter them. The confusing thing IMO is that there are two types of MIFL, one that says and one that says and I use the "direct" one so I would assume it simply downloads everything but it doesn't. Also, I can't get the backgrounddownloader to continue downloading when I exit the game because I don't use the launcher.
  14. Not a problem, the missing posts weren't entirely important. I was able to remember enough of them to replicate the important bits in the bug report itself.
  15. Well the scripting errors are gone and I can read my messenger again
  16. Every page I go to has a couple hundred lines of: The actual forums appear at the end if I scroll the page down. It doesn't appear to effect posting though. OS: XP SP3 Browser: Firefox 18.0.1 Update: It appears to be multiple different line numbers the error is happening on: Full error printout pasted here: http://www.trinitycore.org/f/pastebin/dd21zl3i0a7/ Update 2: Apparently with this error I can't edit posts or view my messenger or PMs.
  17. @CDawg Interesting, I tried what you said and mine stops streaming unless I move around. I wrote a quick bot that makes me run in circles to keep the server from AFK booting me but it didn't matter. I lose the little twirly icon and the bandwith drops to 0 if I don't move from zone to zone. This is extremely frustrating to say the least.
  18. Interesting, hadn't considered that. As per my other thread it seems to have completely wiped my post history too which is weird, I would think that would be in the backup also.
  19. When I choose "my content" under my profile it says "there is no information to show".
  20. Seems like everything I posted yesterday is gone. I even referenced one of my replies to a thread in a bug report but that reply is missing. Also PMs I sent seem to have vanished. Is this a forum bug or did I get on someone's bad side? Edit: Here's one of the missing posts: entry57104 which talked about filename errors in the extractors.
  21. This TFIL that I'm using is slightly different than the one in my pack from the 15595 folder. It has the same patch name inside the torrent but it has a newer date stamp and also includes 5.0 migration data of about 6 GB. It also appears to be downloading more data than the older one, even if you exclude the 5.0 garbage. Incidentally it isn't downloading the 5.0 data into the MPQs but instead putting them in a separate folder. This folder was a preload for people who bought MoP early. When the official MoP patch hit, it combined this preload into the MPQs which is why we with Cata can just delete them. Still have about 4 hours to go though.
  22. Right now I've taken a 15595 client of 19.2 GB (3.3.5a manually patched up) and started backgrounddownloader.exe using a TFIL that says it has 21 GB to download. It says the total size will be 29 GB but the TFIL is also downloading 6 GB of pre MoP "migration" data into a temp folder which gets deleted. So if all ends right, I should end up with a client around 22 GB... several hours downloading left though my connection sucks. Edit: Oddly enough even though I'm on 15595, the downloader says "downloading wow-4.3.3.15354-to-4.3.4.15595-patch" so it seems to have rolled me back a bit.
